New Directions Behavioral Health Senior Accountant/Payroll Accountant - Kansas City, MO in Kansas City, Missouri

The Senior Accountant/Payroll Accountant will perform duties in both accounting and payroll. This includes acting as back-up for all accounting related functions. This role requires a professional with in-depth accounting knowledge and abilities to handle all aspects of this financial role. The successful applicant will have attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate results in all areas.



• Calculate and record journal entries

• Analyzes statements and seeks understanding or appropriateness for account fluctuations versus budget and prior year

• Conduct monthly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance

• Assist Accounting Manager in preparing documents and interpreting complicated financial information for managers and executives

• Document and maintain accounting procedures and processes

• Develop procedures to improve efficiency

• Review and approve employee expense reports through Concur and act as the main contact for expense report inquiries

• Assist with financial and tax audits

• Assist with more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the finance team or other departments

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications

• Serve as back-up to other accounting functions such as AP, AR, Cash/Banking, and Financial Reporting


• Prepare and submit accurate and timely biweekly payrolls as well as 401K employee contributions and company matches, working closely with the Payroll Manager and Human Resources

• Maintain current knowledge and ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal tax, wage and hour laws and requirements

• Collaborate with other departments including HR to ensure all team member payroll and benefit related matters are accurately and timely handled

• Work closely with the rest of the Finance department to track labor for budgeting, cost reports for separate locations, balance payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies that may require journal entries

• Maintain team member confidentiality and protect payroll operations

• Assist the Payroll Manager with other payroll related duties


• At least 4-6 years of relevant accounting and payroll experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business from an accredited university

• Advanced knowledge of Excel

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Ability to function well in a team oriented environment


• 1-2 years of experience in the healthcare industry

• Previous experience with Ultimate Software

• Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics Solomon
