Summary

This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Educational Aid you will be responsible for working on a team at Haskell Little Nations Academic Center providing child care services. LNAC enables the students to meet the education goals and objectives of Haskell.

INDIAN PREFERENCE: Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification Form BIA-4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Responsibilities

As a Educational Aid GS-1702-3, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Provide child care services, including changing diapers and assisting with potty training.
  • Receive children from parents, note special instructions provided, and maintain an accurate count of children in your charge.
  • Acquire CPR, First Aid, and blood born pathogen certifications within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Help create games and play materials, participate in recreational activities, conduct appropriate play and learning activities, and teach children painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
  • Assist in preparing food and serving meals and refreshments while teaching good personal hygiene and health habits, such hand washing.
  • Clean and rearrange classroom after the children leave, clean, sanitize and organize toys, and maintain a record of supplies for order.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

For GS-03: I possess six months of general work experience. General work experience is defined as clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Candidates should describe experience, education, and/or training that demonstrates their ability to provide child care services for children. Include all experience working with children in any capacity in a group or on an individual basis in an educational institution or well established childcare center. OR 1 year of successfully completed education above the high school grade level.

Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements (52 weeks at the next lower grade level).
