Stormont-Vail Healthcare Radiology Technologist in Topeka, Kansas


Performs radiographic, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and other diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and injuries by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 Prepares and positions patient for diagnostic imaging procedures.

 Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.

 Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.

 Moves imaging equipment into specified position, determines exposure factors on basis of height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy.

 Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.

 Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

 Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.

 Measures and mixes barium and contrast media.

 Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.

 Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician.

 Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.

 Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.

 Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed.

 Performs office work including, but not limited to, answering phone, filing, obtaining information from computer, typing cards to stamp films, and ordering departmental supplies.

JCSWHC specific responsibilities :|

Performs, analyzes bone density testing utilizing dual energy x-ray

absorptiometry equipment.

Education/Experience :

Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school required. Two years experience in hospital/clinic is highly desirable.

Certificates and Licenses :

Meets the requirements for registry by the ARRT. Passage of ARRT(R) is required within 12 months of employment to maintain position. Must have current Kansas license within 60 days of hire, or within 60 days of obtaining ARRT registry. Current CPR Certification.
